Birthday Party Idea – Tips for Making a Dessert Table
Before my daughter Skylar turned 1, I started browsing the internet looking for party ideas for her first birthday. I kind of knew what I wanted, but I didn’t really know exactly how to present it. That is when I first discovered the art of dessert tables.

Cooking Dinner with Two Two and Under
By JJ Keith, Staff Writer, JJust Kidding, (@jj_keith) A friend of mine recently solicited her mom cohorts to contribute to a recipe exchange. I’m not what you’d call a foodie, a gourmand or a partaker of epicurean delights. I find little to no pleasure in preparing food. Worse, I’m quite poor at both. I’ve never [...]
Italian Lasagne
By Brooke, Staff Writer, Baby and Sofia (@babyandsofia) Since becoming a stay-at-home mom one year ago, my priorities have seriously shifted. Now that I have been able to focus my energy on taking care of my family, I have found that my life has taken a new route. I have been able to perfect my [...]
Making Fudge with Kids
By Anne, Guest Writer, Sugar Bowl Mix (@SugarBowlMix) My girls say this delicious, creamy and simple-to-make chocolate fudge is “crazy good.” Caroline, my eight-year-old, helped me make this, but the recipe is great for younger kids, too. Kids can unwrap the butter and chocolate, pour the sugar, stir the mixture at various stages and smooth [...]
The Feast of the Epiphany, Italian Style
By Brook, Staff Writer, baby and sofia (@babyandsofia) Instead of the traditional “Merry Christmas” (“Buon Natale”), Italians usually say “Happy Holidays,” (“Buone Feste”). Being a predominately Catholic country, this phrase is used to describe the two major Christian holidays of the season – Christmas and the Epiphany – as well as the New Year. When [...]

bon appetit Desserts {Review and Giveaway}
By Betsy, Editor, Funky Mama Bird, (@funkymamabird) I come from a long line of chefs. My great-grandfather was the head chef at the two hotels open on Cape Cod at the beginning of the 20th century. His daughter, my grandmother, went on to become a chef who wrote cookbooks, a weekly recipe column and hobnobbed [...]
I Still Dream of Cooking
By Julia, Staff Writer, It’s Not Like a Cat (@notlikeacat) Our fridge is bursting with organic produce from our farm share and I had finally planned ahead enough to thaw some chicken. I was excited to make dinner and amid the usual baby-tending and toddler-wrangling was imagining what I was going to throw together with [...]
My Best Cooking Advice (for the Anti-Cook)
By Honey B, Contributor, “The Honey B“ (@thehoneyb) I’m always completely intimidated by people who love to cook. Our Mommyhood confession: I am not a cook. I hate cooking. And I have had more than my fair share of cooking disasters, a long list that may or may not include something I’ve cooked that made [...]

A Little Piece Of Heaven- Buttercream Frosting
It was my husband’s birthday the week after Abby was born. Since she decided to grace us with her presence earlier than expected, I wasn’t able to go out and buy him his gift like I had intended. Yes, I procrastinate… shoot me! Soooo, in addition to buying him a gift online, I busted out a box of Betty Crocker Yellow Cake mix and got a little domestic.
There was just one problem though… we had no frosting in the house!!
The Bar-B-Que Blues
Memphis is home to the World Championship Bar-B-Que Cookoff Competition on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River every May. I was raised in a family that competed every single year in this competition. For five days every May, my life revolved around the mighty god Pork.
That is why everyone’s jaw hit the floor a year ago when I announced that my household would all become vegetarian. The next day.
Simple Breakfast Skillet
I dunno ’bout anyone else… but I hate doing dishes. Like… HATE!! This all-consuming hate of mine has made me realize something; one dish meals make me go weak in the knees!! I declare my love, with wild abandon, for one dish meals!! Sigh… I *heart* one dish meals (insert dreamy look here…).
So, I’m gonna share with you one of our favorites right now! It makes a big serving and comes together “real quick-like”…and it tastes GREAT!
