Top 5 At Home Exercises

By Julia Ladewski, Contributor, Work, Wife, Mom…Life Most busy moms say that the first thing that takes a backseat is their exercise routine. Time, money (gym membership) and more time seem to be the most common culprits. And those same women tell me, “If I could just do something at home, I’d be all set.” [...]

Get Your Iron

By Julia Ladewski, Contributor, Work, Wife, Mom… Life, (@JuliaLadewski) As a busy mom, I’ve fallen into the eating trap.  You know the one: daughter doesn’t finish her PB&J so I eat the rest.  Son doesn’t like the kiwi today (which is strange because he did yesterday) so I eat the rest.  And while I don’t [...]

Carbs

By Julia, Contributor, Work, Wife, Mom…Life (@JuliaLadewski) Atkins.  South Beach. Zone. Ring a bell?  Those are all names of formerly popular, low carb, high protein diets that claimed rapid weight loss. Suddenly, in the late 90s and early 2000s, Americans found themselves passing on the biscuits, but asking for more bacon. Since then, we’ve learned [...]

Fish Pills & Steroids: Pre-Pregnancy Preparation

By Honey B, Staff Writer, The Honey B (@TheHoneyB) The countdown continues, and we’re in full-scale prepare for pregnancy mode in the B. household. I’ve decided that getting ready to gestate a human being comes down to mostly pills. Well, pills and a lot of learning, which I thought I would share with you. *Just [...]

Was I Really a Runner Once?

By Julia Magnusson, Staff Writer, It’s Not Like a Cat (@notlikeacat) It turns out that if you’ve been “benched” for a while and then hit the gym really hard as soon as you can your body rebels. Structurally. It’s not true for everyone, but if you have a chronic injury here, a recovering injury there [...]

Creating a Routine that Works

By Megan M., Staff Writer, All A Bunch Of Momsense (@taxmegan) It’s amazing how much time real life sucks out of our days. After the kids went back to school a few weeks ago, it was time for us to kick off our own “back to school” period at my job. My work hours kick [...]

Turkey Trot

By Julia, Staff Writer, It’s Not Like a Cat (@notlikeacat) Ow. Shoulders, arms, back: hurt. Abs: moderately sore. Legs: hard to say; I can’t tell if they are more tired than sore. Returning to the gym full-force after a long hiatus is hard, and the road in front of me looks like one long uphill. [...]

Getting Your Child to Exercise Without Exercising

By Cathryn Johnson, Guest Writer With the school year now underway, it is time for the weather to change.  And that means our kids will be spending countless hours in front of the television, either watching their shows, or playing video games.  Even the little physical activity they had during the summer in the form [...]

Not So Guilty Pleasure

By Megan M., Contributor, All A Bunch Of Momsense (@taxmegan) I’m a reader. I’ll read about anything with text on it. There are books scattered through my house, and usually I’m working my way through two or three of them at a time. My books are my escape. When I have downtime – after the kids are [...]

My Enemy, The Scale

By Amanda, Guest Writer, It’s Blogworthy (@amandaaustin) I was dreading this appointment with my midwife for some reason. I had the worst running through my head — what if they couldn’t hear him? What if something was “off”? I signed in and waited only a couple of minutes before the nurse lead me to my [...]

Avoiding the Temptation of Junk Food

Ever since I started my new job 7 months ago, I’ve been working strange hours (afternoon into evening). Because of this, my eating schedule and habits have been completely thrown out the window.

Dear Fellow Gym Members,

To the guy with the beer gut wearing a tank top and jeans:
Neither cool nor attractive

To the middle-aged man that calls me beautiful:
Please don’t call me that. It’s creepy

To every other guy in the gym:
I’m working out. I don’t have time to talk. Yes, I know I’m strong for a “little girl like me”. No need to tell me.

The Once And Future Yoga Master

Pre-kids, I was like the yoga master.

Give me a crazy balancing pose and I could hang out there all day.

The poses where there are different levels of difficulty, I would just automatically go into the most challenging one.

A Gym Rat (For All The Wrong Reasons)

No, I love the gym because my kids aren’t there. At the gym, I get to pretend I’m not a mother for at least an hour every day except Sunday.

Oh, Exercise!

There are many exercise-related jokes out there- my personal favorite line is that I don’t exercise because its not good for my health, because my thighs rub together and it sets my shorts on fire. Funny, yes….helpful to the size of said thighs? No…

Exercising For Two

The second line has barely turned pink, and you have already made up your mind that for the next nine months your gym membership card can collect dust in your wallet. Now, is a time of eating for two, kicking up your feet, and taking it easy, right?

Dive In To Bathing Suit Season

Summer is just around the corner, and hopefully you’ve all been working on getting your body bathing suit ready!! What, you haven’t?? That is quite alright (I haven’t either)! If you’re in the market for a new bathing suit, though, then you’ve come to the right place. Below are some great suggestions for Summer 2010 – ready or not!

The Gym? What Is That?

Our Mommyhood ButtonWhen I first heard the topic “in the gym,” my first reaction was – can this be about how unfamiliar I am with the inside of the gym as of late? Seriously… it’s been awhile… But what’s scary? I’m beginning to miss it.

She’s Losing It… One Pound At A Time

Lisa's Losing It One Pound At A TimeA great friend of this blog, Lisa @ This Mommy Works is officially losing it… well, sorta. See, she’s about to embark on a new weight loss challenge, and she’s looking for your support and your participation!

This Ain’t Baby Weight

I’m not really sure how this “dieting” nonsense works ,as I’ve never been fat before. I was thin my whole life until my body was invaded by many a fetus* and I thought, “Oh! Eating for two!” But I was totally kidding myself about that; it was pretty obvious I was eating for, like, ninety.

Weight Watching… And Waiting

So I’m all into the Weight Watchers thing. I’m going to the meetings as planned, and I’m obsessed with getting the 10% key ring, and the charms for 25lbs, 50lbs, Lifetime, etc. Obsessed. The immortal phrase from What About Bob comes to mind- “gimme gimme gimme, I want, I want, I need, I need.” I’m actually hoping if I apply those thoughts towards a key ring instead of Twinkies, I might have a shot at the key ring!

Hello, Muscles I Never Knew I Had!

It all started with watching a very scary infomercial on TV for P90x. It’s an extreme home fitness program. Emphasis on the “extreme” part. It comes with a nutrition plan and 12 DVDs of workouts that you do throughout a 90 day course. D Hubs thought it looked like an awesome program and was determined to try it out so he can get that 6 pack he has always wanted.

A Weighty Issue

I’ve got a bone to pick. I know, I know… my first post on Our Mommyhood, and I’ve already got a bone to pick! Wanna hear it? Of course you do.
