5 Ways You Can Stay Healthy at Work

Beautiful smiling woman working on her laptopThe office to mom’s is like school to kid’s: a germ factory. Staying healthy at work can be difficult, especially when you have co-workers that refuse to stay home when they are ill. As a busy mom, you can’t afford any down time. With these common sense tips, you can be sure that you will stay as healthy as you can, no matter what sicknesses your office mates try to share with you!

1. Carry Hand Sanitizer and Use It

There are a variety of hand sanitizers on the market; some are travel-sized, some are mixed with lotion and some come in pump bottles. No matter which you choose, keep it near you and use it often. Shared phones, keyboards and even coffee pots are hotbeds for germs. Think of how many times you touch these items everyday and then think about how many times you touch your face. Get in the habit of using hand sanitizer each time you use an item that is used by
others.

2. Sanitizing Wipes are Your Best Friend

Rather than wiping your desk with a paper towel, or not wiping it at all, keep a tube of sanitizing wipes in your drawer and clean with them at the end of each work day. It doesn’t take long to wipe off the handset of a phone, the keys on the keyboard and the top of your desk or work station. Using these wipes will not only keep your area clean but will keep it sanitary as well.

3. Use the First Stall

If your office has a bathroom with more than one toilet divided by stalls, always use the first stall. Studies have shown that people tend to travel toward the end of the line when it comes to bathroom stalls and, as such, these
are often the most germ filled.

Here’s a bonus tip for you: never put your purse on the bathroom floor; use the hanger on the back of the door. Bathroom floors are notoriously dirty, even when they look clean. Not only will putting your purse on the floor cover its bottom in germs you can’t see, but you’ll transport these germs into your car
and home.

4. Eat Right

As a mom, you know that eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water are sure-fire ways to stay as healthy as possible. Stick to your good habits even when you’re at the office! Carry a bottle of water to work with you and pack a healthy lunch or some raw veggies to snack on throughout the day.

There’s nothing wrong with a lunch out now and then but do try to forgo the
cakes, cookies and snacks that your co-workers bring in to share. Better yet,
you be the one to bring goodies in to share; just make them healthy!

5. Know Your Safety Manual

Almost every workplace has a safety manual. We all know that safety training seminars are as dry as a bag of dust but knowing how to avoid work place injury is important; try to stay awake and pay attention! Work place accidents do happen but many can be avoided. The good news is that almost all of these injuries are covered by worker’s compensation. If you do happen to be injured at work and aren’t sure what steps to take, contact a personal injury attorney for advice.

Staying healthy and safe at work is important, especially for moms. Not only do you run the risk of getting sick but you may very well bring that illness home to your family. With a bit of common sense and practicality, you can stay healthy at work, no matter who you share your space with.
