Moneylicious Author – Ornella Grosz Twitter Party
At a recent Love Drop event, I had the opportunity to meet an amazing woman – Ornella Grosz. At only 28 years old, she has become the go-to person for financial advice for generation X and Y. She has been featured by many news casts on NBC, ABC, FOX, and CBS. Along with her critically acclaimed “How-to” book, she serves as a financial expert for the Atlanta Post. Many colleges are sponsoring her to speak to their students about planning for financial future, the economy is shifting quickly and we all need to be better prepared for the uncertain future. I have asked her to provide advice to Our Mommyhood on how to prepare our children for the future.
One of the first things I noticed about Ornella, is her ability to talk to me in simple terms about my finances. She doesn’t judge, look down her nose, or ask why you haven’t been doing this before now. She makes you feel empowered and prepared to take control. Having not been as financially focused on my own life, she made it sound much more interesting and fun than I once believed. She kind of reminds me of the “girl in the green scarf” in the movie “Confessions of a Shopaholic”. (Although, I don’t think she has anyone chasing her down to collect on a debt.)
Ornella graduated from California State University in finance. She works for the Teacher’s Retirement System of Georgia and helps teachers better prepare for their later years. During her time in college and in her career, she has seen how many people struggle with managing their own money. This is where she found her inspiration for the book and her passion in helping people have happier futures.
Children off at college are notorious for coming out with huge financial responsibilities – credit cards available to the newbies, opportunities for splurging without having to think about the consequences, and even school loans. Studies show that the average college graduate is saddled with at least $25,000 in debt. Job markets are shrinking and opportunities to make enough money to pay this back are getting slimmer. Now is a good time to teach financial responsibility, BEFORE they go to college.
Wouldn’t it be great to have your child start off their new life on a strong foundation and not have to settle for any job that will help them pay off their debt? Your children might hate talking to you about their finances now, but they will thank you later when they don’t suffer like their friends are.
Come to our Twitter party on Tuesday, November 1st at 9:00pm. She will be answering your questions on the best ways to teach your children to manage their own money. It is never too late and with the growing rate of unemployment and bankruptcies we need to be a part of the change for our future generation. Teaching our children how to be prepared is our gift to them. No mom wants to stay up at night worrying about their son or daughter not having any money to live on.
Hear Ornella’s advice, ask her questions, win a copy of her book, and help your children prepare for their future.
