Mommy Must Have: The Ninja

Betsy, Contributor, Funkymamabird.com (@funkymamabird)

From the first moment that Gunne Bear started taking solid food, I made all my own baby food. I had a number of reasons for this including:

  • *Cheaper
  • *I knew what went in it
  • *I could more closely approximate the foods we ate and get him on table food faster

To make my own baby food, I needed a food processor and a blender.

When I was starting out, I went to Target and got the cheapest they had. This was for two reasons: Gunne Bear had to start solids before I was prepared, and I had no idea the difference in quality between machines.

Fast forward several months of pureeing and both appliances die on me. In a week of one another; they were like the old married couple that couldn’t carry on without each other.

So here I was stuck and needing something new, again in a hurry. So back to Target, but it was on a night that I didn’t have a toddler strapped to my back so I took my time to savor the alone time read about the different machines.

What came home with me that day was The Ninja.

I will fully and freely admit that what initially attracted me to The Ninja was this:

  • *It’s blue and I like colors
  • *It’s called The Ninja
  • *It’s a blender and food processor in one – only one purchase to make

So I bring that bad boy home, and plug it in to puree Gunne Bear some soup. Now, with my old food processor, you turned it on and then went about your business. Maybe you folded some laundry, had a snack, did a little dance, fixed yourself a sandwich; when you came back the food might be done, or maybe you had time for another sandwich. The Ninja does not work that way.

It has two sets of blades to do its dirty work, along with a vacuum tight seal that prevents leaks and drips. Just pulsing it twice was enough to make chunky puree, a few more pulses and I had soup, creamy, perfect soup without a lump in sight.

The Ninja has given me time, time that my old food processor viciously stole from me over the course of months. I can puree our leftovers into food for Gunne Bear in seconds, no matter if I think he can handle it chunky, or it really needs to be paste before he’ll attempt it.

Even if you don’t make your own baby food, or your kids are older, you need The Ninja. This thing makes soups, salsa, guacamole and mixed, frozen drinks in the time it takes you to blink. As moms, our time is limited, and our standards high; The Ninja rises to the occasion in all ways.

When you’re done pureeing, or blending, it comes apart in easy to wash pieces. There are lids for storing liquids in the fridge, and it takes up no room at all on the counter. Did I mention that it does not drip? My old food processor had a steady leak and was so difficult to clean that it just sat in its own sticky puddle most of the time.

Bottom line – Mommy must have the Ninja: spread the word.
