Bento Boxes: The Lunch Box Every Kid Should Have
By Summer Minor, Special Guest, My Baby Clothes Boutique
When you look for a new lunch box for your child, you are most likely to see the same old plastic box featuring cartoon characters and pop icons. Instead of going with the typical style, many parents are choosing Bento boxes instead. These unique, and eco-friendly, lunch boxes are a must have for every school kid.
Bento boxes have an unusual name with a rich history. Traditionally, a bento lunch is a Japanese styled lunch consisting of fish, rice, and vegetables packed together into a neat box. These portable lunches caught on in the US, and gained an American flair. Now thousands of children across the US are taking their lunch to school in carefully arranged, reusable compartments.
Bento lunch boxes contain several smaller boxes, each with a sturdy spill-proof lid that allows any number of foods to be packed. With these, parents do not need disposable plastic packaging or single serving convenience foods that are often unhealthy. You can dish up a homemade, healthy meal and store it safely to be eaten later. Goodbye bags of chips and plastic wrapped sandwiches!
Bento boxes are typically made from BPA-free plastic that are safe for every child to use. Parents who are looking to avoid plastics can even find stainless steel versions of these lunch boxes.
Kids love bento boxes as much as their parents do. These lunch boxes can be found in a variety of colors and styles, and some are even sold with characters painted on. Kids can even find them outside the typical square shape for a fun and unique lunch treat.
The popularity of bento box for lunch continues to grow, and companies are meeting the demand by putting out more and more colorful, fun styles. The practicality and durability of these make them a favorite among many parents. From kindergarten to high school, bento boxes are the must-have lunch box for every child.

I used to use Bento boxes when I worked outside the home. I hadn’t ever thought of using them to pack up Gunne’s food when we’re out. I will now!
I think these are really cute, and I love the idea of not having to buy a million sandwich baggies, but my kids would lose all the lids to those containers the first day they used them. Fo sho.
I agree with you about all the little containers. I found a site that sells the perfect solutions

All the little containers are together as one piece and they even have a cooler bag to fit them. I love it! Check it out. Great way to carry toddler food or even homemade baby food too.
LOVE this idea. I was introduced to it a few years ago and can’t wait to try it!!

Love these boxes!! That panda is adorable. They also make Gentleman’s Bento Boxes that come with metal chopsticks (so you don’t have to throw away wood ones every day). I’m desperately trying to track down the perfect one for my husband so he doesn’t have to take a bag full of small tupperware every day.
