Hello, my name is {Not Quite} Susie Homemaker and I am a hoarder.
“Hi, Susie!”
The subject of my hoarding compulsion is not candy wrappers, clothing or even cats. It’s information.
I love to learn. I can easily sit in front of a computer for hours and get lost in “cyberspace”, trying to soak up all the information I can find. Sometimes I even lose track of time and suddenly it’s 3AM and I haven’t gotten anything done other than bookmarking twenty new websites for me to revisit every day.
Lucky for you, since I already did the research, you don’t have to stay up all night to find information applicable to you. Instead, just find your niche here and bookmark the sites you like. Or if you’re anything like me and you fit into all of the niches, just bookmark this post and keep coming back!
For the Mamas: Parents Connect is a website from Nickelodeon that is set up much like a blog but features articles from all different people about many topics for moms that’ll make you laugh. Then there’s BabyCenter, the Mecca of baby-information. The communities and forums are amazing- any question you could possibly have has an answer or a story from someone who has been there! I once searched for “baby breathing in hyperventilating when sleeping but only briefly” and GOT A RESULT.
For the Homemaker: Shelf Life Advice is great for when you open your fridge and find those leftovers that got shoved to the back two weeks ago. You can search by item or type of item and find exactly how long the shelf life is before you poison your family! All You is a magazine found exclusively at WalMart, but their website is chock-full of articles that address organizing, cleaning, cooking, couponing, crafts, etc. I frequently refer to their website when I am looking for motivation to get stuff done. Once I’m motivated, I check out Real Simple to find quick-fix ways to do what I need to!
For the Health Nut: Sparkpeople is a diet and exercise tracker, menu planner and community all in one. You receive Sparkpoints for being active- both on and offline. The website is so successful, they have even published a book that hit the New York Times Bestseller list! Whole Foods Market’s website has plenty of articles about being healthy- including how-to’s, guides and resources for eating better.
For the Social Butterfly: There are some obvious websites- Twitter and Facebook, for example- but there are also the sites that make those ones better. For example, HootSuite is a “professional Twitter client” that allows you to watch whatever feeds you want on your dashboard- for example, your Mentions, Direct Messages, Home Feed and any specific hashtags or lists you follow. It’s completely customizable and you can even schedule Tweets to be sent out later. Then there’s BzzzAgent- a site that gives you free swag just in the hopes that you’ll talk about the product with your friends, whether that be via social media, a blog or just in person.
For the Blogger: The Blog Frog has been around for awhile but with all the improvements they’ve made lately, it’s like it’s been reborn! You can add communities to your blog, become BFF’s (Blog Frog Followers) with blogs you love, and show up on the blogs of those you visit who have the Blog Frog- it’s great, free PR! Problogger is the Holy Grail of all things blogging- it has information for beginning bloggers like myself as well as seasoned pros. If you’re looking for pictures to include on your posts, try Compfight- you just type in the keywords you’re looking for and it will crawl Flickr for you and put as many results as will fit on your screen so you can easily compare and select.
Honorable Mentions: These sites are not free, but are worth the small membership fee- List PlanIt and Plan to Eat. List PlanIt allows you to print hundreds of lists or download them and type directly into them to help organize every aspect of your life. Plan to Eat is a great tool that lets you save recipes just by entering the URL and will turn the recipe into a grocery list for you- even dividing the list into the sections of the store the items are found in.
There you have it- some of the best of the best free websites out there for information addicts like myself.

One of my favorites when Ethan was a baby is Wholesome Baby Food: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/. They had all kinds of great info about when and what your baby could eat, as well as recipes for those who want to make their baby food. There’s also a Wholesome Toddler Food site as well.
I highly recommend Blog Coach to any bloggers out there. It is at blogcoach.org It is a great resource for information, feedback, tips, and how to’s. I love it.
Great round up!
