Weight Watching… And Waiting
By Honey B
So I’m all into the Weight Watchers thing. I’m going to the meetings as planned, and I’m obsessed with getting the 10% key ring, and the charms for 25lbs, 50lbs, Lifetime, etc. Obsessed. The immortal phrase from What About Bob comes to mind- “gimme gimme gimme, I want, I want, I need, I need.” I’m actually hoping if I apply those thoughts towards a key ring instead of Twinkies, I might have a shot at the key ring!
On Tuesday, another WW member got her Lifetime charm. It went on the key ring I’m so obsessed with. She looked awesome too; she looked like she felt good. I was SO impressed. Lifetime! Until the Leader asked her how much weight she had lost. And she answered… 26 pounds.
I’m sorry what?
26 pounds?!
I can lose 26 pounds just by cutting out Little Debbie products!
Now don’t get me wrong, she’s obviously done well. She had weight to lose, and she lost it. And she lost it in a healthy way. Which is more than I can say about myself… yet. But I lost a certain level of admiration when I found out her total loss was 26 pounds.
If I’m being perfectly honest about what I need to lose, I’m staring down 82 pounds. And that’s just 5 pounds below the top of the recommended weight ranges for me. 26 pounds isn’t even a third of what I need to lose. And when you’re not losing more than the recommended two pounds a week, that’s a lot of weeks.
I will never begrudge this woman the attainment of the Lifetime achievement. But I’m going back to the WW meeting on Tuesday really hoping to see someone who has lost 50, 75, or 100+ pounds. Because I know that person has pushed through weeks, and plateaus, and too many baby carrots, and persevering, and surviving work potlucks, and wavering resolve, and even more weeks to see it through to Lifetime. That is some serious weight loss.
But let’s be honest here… why do I want to meet one of those people so badly? Pretty much just to know that yes, someone can give up Little Debbie products and go on to lead a normal life.

Good luck. There are people out there who have given up the Little Debbie snacks and live a normal life. I’m just not one of them
Hang in there! You will get there, and you will get that keychain and all of the charms that come with it. Little Debbie probably isn’t so little in real life!
Have you discovered the Skinny Cow brand yet? Their truffle bars are only 100 calories and they help out with my chocolate need.
I also wanted to say that I was one of “those people” at Weight Watchers who reached their goal after losing only 25ish pounds. I never really felt like I had any room to celebrate my losses at the meetings, because I knew that there were so many other people who had much longer roads than I did. Maybe she feels the same way?
Yes yes! Skinny Cow!!! Skinny Cow’s are what got me through my 1st experience with Weight Watchers.
I agree with you! 26 pounds please! But right now I wish I was the 26 pound loser!
I need to get off this couch and start WW. Good luck in your journey!
My 1st go-around with Weight Watchers, I too was one of those people who achieved Lifetime status (and the keychain and charms) after losing 30lbs.
This time is different, MUCH different. And by this time, I mean I haven’t stepped foot in a meeting….yet.
Hang in there, you WILL get your keychain, you WILL get your charms, you WILL feel fabulous about yourself!
Good luck getting your key chain & charms… I’ll be rooting for you as I still look for my thing that gets me off my arse to do more than consider I need to lose 54lbs to get back to where I was when I got engaged at 25 (now staring 34 dead on) and rejoice in the fact that at least I am no longer looking at the 20 additional pounds I was carrying last September.
Oh, and that goal of mine… It only gets me back into the top range of my BMI scale too…
And for a laugh… I saw Erin’s response of “Skinny Cow”, and totally thought she was referencing the 26lb’er… Then I read it in full…
So here’s the thing…
26 pounds to someone that is *skinny* to begin with, is A LOT!!!
I’ve got 20 pounds to go to get back to get back to where I was pre-pregnancy. I got to within 10 pounds of it after my first pregnancy, got pregnant again, and now I’m looking at 20 pounds. It is torture trying to get it off. 20 pounds to me is like 50 or 60 pounds to someone else. It’s all relative to how heavy you are to begin with…
Losing weight is one of the hardest things to accomplish. I’m in the midst of it myself. You can do it!! Great post.
This past Monday I embarked on training for a 5k in an attempt to get into better shape, have my clothes fit better, and loose 10lbs!
My weight loss effort has been ongoing for nearly 3 years now. So far I’ve lost about 72 pounds over the course of 2 years. Boy have I hit plateaus, and gained some then lost it again. I’ll be starting p90x soon, and I tell you…I’m ready to be done with this weight loss thing once and for all!
OMG, you crack me up! I can just see you lunging toward the keychains! It sounds like you are on the right track, though!
Well, I’ll give you some encouragement….I lost 60 pounds at Weight Watchers and achieved my goal (and the keychain). I have continued to lose another 30 pounds on my own (I don’t go to WW anymore). Here is the saying I live by: “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!”

Ha ha, I COMPLETELY understand! I started losing weight on the first of the year and am down 25lbs, whoo hoo! I have a good 75+ more to go though and I feel the same way about people that set their weight loss goals for 10, 20lbs…….I have found a great blogging community through my weight loss blog in other women who have more then *ahem* 20 or 30 pounds to lose.
Hang in there!!
While my first instinct is the same as yours – 26lbs is nothing and how can she possibly be a lifetime member???, I have to remind myself that not only did she lose that weight but she is KEEPING IT OFF. That is really the biggest accomplishment – living life without allowing the weight to creep back on.
Not only am I obsessed with the keychain and charms, I’m obsessed with the gold 5lb star stickers! I’m 28.4lbs into a 53lb goal, so I have the keychain and the 25lb charm already.
You can do it! (And yes, Skinny Cow is my saviour too!)
I agree wholeheartedly with Kristen. When you don’t have as much to lose, losing is harder! (Pound for pound) When I first started losing my 35 lbs they flew off. But as I neared my goal, it tick tocked and became nearly impossible to get there. And no, my weight wasn’t “baby weight” like Jenny McCarthy. (Though that’s what I tried to tell myself for two years after the baby was born.) There were some weeks where I would be on the program and stay the same or actually GAIN a few ounces. FRUSTRATING to say the least. It’s murder trying to loose the last few pounds when that happens. I almost gave up so many times. Now, four years later I’m still at my goal weight. But you want to know the really sad thing? (Besides totally losing my boobs.) I still feel as fat at a size 6 as I did when I was a size 12. Sometimes being a woman really SUCKS!
Do you read Too Many Hats? She has lost 70-something pounds using WW and she is training for a half marathon! She’s totally an inspiration! http://toomanyhats.ahiafamily.net/ Go check her out!
