Mama’s Got A New Pair Of Shoes

By Samantha

Being a mommy and a wife is full time job. At times, we get so busy that we forget about doing things for ourselves. We get so caught up in doing things for those people who mean the most, that we leave little to no time to spend on ourselves. One day, not too long ago, I was feeling pretty low. I felt unappreciated, fat, tired, depressed, worn down, and sloppy. I needed something new; something to make me feel better. In my world, that means new clothes or shoes, or maybe even a new hair-do. Unfortunately, like most families in America, we live paycheck to paycheck with no money to spare. I hadn’t bought myself new clothes in quiet awhile, and I didn’t have a decent pair of new shoes. In fact, the only thing I had going for me was the little bit of weight I was losing. So… I decided it was time to treat myself. I knew that if I didn’t act fast, I was going to have to check myself into a mental facility.

I had been eyeing these expensive shoes for quiet a while. They were made by “Clarks”, so I knew they would be well worth the money. But as I mentioned before, we’re kinda poor. Not dirt poor, but not rich enough to just randomly drop $80 on a new pair of shoes. That’s the kind of stuff we have to save up for. I knew that if I got these shoes, I would feel better. I knew I’d step out of the house, feeling like I was on top of the world! You know how you feel when you’re wearing something new; whether it be new hair, new lipstick, new purse, new top, or new shoes…you just feel great, with a renewed sense of confidence!

So, when some random money came in, I immediately dragged Hubby to the shoe store so that I could buy those cute Clarks. I remember the first time I put my feet in those shoes. They were like a piece of heaven. I wasted no time in making them mine. I immediately took them up to the counter, paid for them, and put them on before I even got in the car! I didn’t even have to break them in. How often do you get a pair of shoes that you don’t even have to break in? Those shoes turned me into a new woman, with refreshed confidence. I felt hot, and what mommy doesn’t like to feel hot?

The moral to this story is…

If you are feeling tired, unappreciated, less confident, and worn down… …maybe all you need is a new pair of shoes!

I love this post …When my ex and I divorced I had to learn to make it on what I made and a bit of child support which would essentially only pay for day care and medication and put a tiny bit in the college fund….Man when I finally got it all together I saved up so I could buy 2 pairs of pants that fit since I had lost weight and I felt awesome …..Thank you for sharing

  • I like to buy something new to make myself feel good too, but then I feel guilty after buying it. I usually have that buyer’s remorse. I have found that even buying some brand new make up or lotion makes me feel good too! Pampering mama is good, in any way you do it!

  • As a shoeholic – I applaud the incredible soul-lifting power of a new pair of soles. :)

  • It’s rare that I buy something for myself, too. Maybe I’ll have to tell dh that I’ll feel like a hot mama if I do….

  • Gina:

I SO need a new pair of shoes. But I don’t allow myself to buy new shoes during pregnancy in case my feet grow like everyone keeps swearing they will. Six more months!

Totally agree with you on the shoes making things feel better concept. LOVE to buy new shoes. Have only bought a couple pairs in the last year or so, but my dream is someday to get Manolos or Jimmy Choos! ;-)
