Hello, Muscles I Never Knew I Had!
By Shandal
It all started with watching a very scary infomercial on TV for P90x. It’s an extreme home fitness program. Emphasis on the “extreme” part. It comes with a nutrition plan and 12 DVDs of workouts that you do throughout a 90 day course. D Hubs thought it looked like an awesome program and was determined to try it out so he can get that 6 pack he has always wanted.
I on the other hand thought that the Tony Horton guy seemed like a total crazy loon if he thinks it’s actually possible for anyone to do some of his techniques in his workouts. D Hubs asked for it for Christmas. His Mom gets it for him and then I had to seriously debate if I should try it or not. I didn’t want him to be all ripped this summer while I still had my double-post-preggo-pudge-belly. So at first I was just like, “Fine, I’ll just try it out.” Then I realized that I will never make it the entire 90 days with that kind of attitude. So I was 100% committed to this program. I am going to complete it.
We started P90x on the first Monday of January. Holy pains! I was so sore that first week. It was killer. The first time doing all of the workouts I was totally giving Tony Horton the stink eye and yelling at him. The nicest thing I had to say was, “Holy hell! You want me to do what?!” Throughout the video Tony kept saying, “Do your best, and forget the rest.” Which did make me feel better about how weak I was. I figured if he’s saying that then maybe everyone struggles in the beginning. The second week we repeated all of the same workouts we did the first week. I could already tell how much stronger I was getting and could see a difference in the way my clothes fit. That’s when I was hooked. I could already see the improvements and I felt like I had so much more energy.
After seeing and feeling such good results, I wanted to share with people how it’s changed me so much for the better. So I became an Independent Team Beachbody Coach. I’ve committed to this healthy lifestyle change and I want to help others do the same. Not just by doing P90x. There’s tons of other programs and other ways to improve your diet and exercise. I want to help support people when they need it while trying to figure out what kind of exercise and diet is best for them.
So currently P90x is my workout choice. I’m thinking that I might either do another round of P90x again after I’m done or I might try a program called Insanity. Either way, I know that I want to start running. I’ve never been able to run far at all without getting out of breath by the time I reached the end of my driveway. So this summer I’m looking forward to see how far I’ve come as far as stamina.

It really is amazing, isn’t it? We’re about to finish week 3 of P90X, and before we started P90X we did Tony’s Power90. He’s a freak, but he knows what he’s doing! I’m a total convert.
Yes, it sure is amazing! That’s awesome that you’re doing it too! I’ve heard good things about Power90 as well. Keep pushing play!
I signed up for the gym along with my whole family. So far mom and I have gone 4 times. Between kids schedules and her illnesses it has made it interesting trying to go. It also irritates me that the only thing my 10 yr old can do is the pool. They have a kids room for all the good it does a crappy Tv and some old toys.. I really feel like they could open a section for kids to work out too..
Wow Shandal! I checked out your profile..and your before and after pics are amazing!!! Way to go! You must be so proud of yourself.
Currently my main form of exercise is getting up in the morning and walking down the stairs. Yes, seriously.
I need need need to find some form of exercise that I will stick to. You see, I’m one of those people that is all gung ho at first only for it to peeter out by day 4. I can’t even make it a whole week. I know it’s a frame of mind thing. I used to love exercising and eating well before I had children. And I know the excuse of “I have no time” is just that…an excuse.
Thankfully the warm weather is slowly joining us. I enjoy being outdoors and going for a lot of walks when it’s nice out.
Thanks! Ya it feels pretty good!
Beachbody actually has a program that’s perfect for those people that “don’t have time.” It’s called 10 Minute Trainer. Just 10 minutes a day of working out!
I’m really looking forward to warm weather too. Going for walks is so refreshing and so good for you too!
I belong to the local YMCA, and I’m very lucky that they have free child care. That gives me the chance to do all sorts of fun exercise! I like to run and swim, and I take lots of classes like spinning, strength, abs, Zumba, and cardio kickboxing. Can’t wait for spring when I can start running outside again!
Oh I’d love to try spinning and Zumba sometime! Sounds fun!
I have had a couple of friends do P90X, and I’m scared. I mean, the Wii Fit is tough for me! I think I need to take baby steps… Other than Hans on the Wii Fit working with me, I walk and sometimes run — I did the Royal Family 5K at Disney a couple of weeks ago, and next month I’m doing another one. I’m still not sure why…
How amazing.
I’ve done Body for Life after I had my first son, and dropped 15 pounds and a few sizes in 6 weeks. I then gave it up.
My youngest is now 17 months old and I still have 15 pounds to lose. I have P90X, but I’ve never even watched the DVD’s yet…I just can’t seem to get motivated.
My husband is almost done with his round of P90X and looks AWESOME!!!
I tried it a few times and loved the workouts, but man does it kick your arse!
Right now, I am battling shin splints, so I have been walking on an incline (5.0) on the treadmill at about 3.8 mph with weights on my arms. I also do squats, lunges, abs, and some other upper body weights.
I have 5 lbs to lose… pretty good since I stared out with a total of 20lbs to lose last year.
A friend of mine is doing Insanity and loves it. She’s seen incredible results in five weeks. I tried p90x and it wasn’t for me. It’s a great workout, but just not my fit. I do a spinning class once a week and try to do another cardio class once a week as well. When I am not pregnant, I also do Body Pump. I never thought I’d say I love to exercise, but I do!
I’ve heard that it’s too fast passed for some people. I think that’s great that you have found something that works for you though!!!
I did my first round of P90X last year. Although I enjoyed it and loved the results I find it too strenuous and time consuming to do regularly. I currently have my own mix of a program where I do some of the strength training videos with my current marathon training program that seems to be working for me.
Keep in mind that running is very different from most forms of cardio. It’s very high impact, so even if your lungs feel like you can go farther, start slowly so your joints, tendons and muscles get used to it. It’s easy to overdo it and get injured in the beginning.
Great post! Very motivational. Hubby and I are doing Body for Life. It doesn’t require a huge daily time commitment (which I don’t have with twin babies!) and I’m learning to make the little workout time I do have as intense and productive as I can. If I can hit it hard for 20 – 45 minutes (depending on the planned workout for that day) then I feel great. It’s been the only workout program I’ve stuck to so far!
Twins! Goodness, you must have your hands full! Sounds like you’ve found a great program that works very well for you! Keep it up!
I’ve been too wussy to do P90x..but I do heart the Shred! Thanks for adding our giveaway. : )
ok, so i had this whole rad comment in my head, but lost it when i got totally confused by the jesslyn comment up there ^. i was like “wait. i already commented on this?! what the hell. tax returns have clearly pushed me to insanity”. but then i realized it wasn’t me because a.) we all know i have no hubby, and b.) i am not doing any programs right now. i am running more though, so that’s something i guess.
anywho- back to rad p90x shandal. yeah- you are kicking some serious arse lady. keep rocking it. just remember all us blogging friends when you are in magazines and whatnot.
Haha! Oh Jess, you’re too funny! I think you have a WAY better chance of getting yourself a husband than I do getting in a magazine! LOL Running is definitely something! Add a little weight training and you’ll be set.
I liked P90 but I really like Insanity..I like the cardio intensity and the length, not too long and I find the trainer less annoying and cocky then Tony….
Also good is Chalene Extreme..also by beachbody
I love exercise..my hubby calls the gym my happy place…I head out after the kids are in bed.
I’m training for my first marathon!!!I’ve done several halves and it’s time to amp it up!! follow me at

I did 25 days of the 30 day Shred back in January and it kicked my butt! Feb. was a little more of a slack month for me but since January 8th I have lost about 23 pounds which feels really good. I still have about 80 to go but I am back to Shredding so I am confident I will get there by the end of the year!
Wow, that’s a great accompishment! Way to go!
I am almost convinced that I just need to try P90X. It is working out so well for you! Currently, I work out about 5 days a week with a mixture of cardio and different styles of yoga, but I would love to try something new!
